The sea is throwing rocks onto the beachfront terraces

Overnight the surf carried rocks up over the sea wall and onto the beachfront terraces, along with sand and debris. The office walked the front this morning and found stones sitting on the tile well back from the edge.

If your house faces the water, please consider boarding the seaward windows with plywood while this swell lasts. A rock arriving with a wave carries more than enough force to break glass, and the terraces most exposed are the ones where people sit.

Bring in or tie down your patio furniture as well. The video from this morning shows chairs knocked over and cushions moved on several different terraces, and a loose chair in this surf is one more thing that can go through a window.

Do not try to clear the terrace while the surf is running. Wait for low tide and daylight.

This is the same swell that damaged three of the beach cameras and several walkway lamps on the 8th, and that has already taken out stairs along this stretch. The board has deliberately held off replacing the cameras and lamps until February, once the storm season passes, because anything installed now would likely be destroyed again and wet electrical fittings this close to the water risk serious shorts.

If you rent your house, tell your guests today. If you see damage anywhere along the beachfront, report it to the office.
